Ero the Joker in Makarska

August 7th, 2019
For the second time this summer Theresa performed the role of Doma in comic opera Ero the joker of most famous croatian composer Jakov Gotovac composed on libretto of Milan Begovic this time was played in Middledalmatian tourist center Makarska on the peninsula Osejava. Conducted by mo. Jure Bucevic.

Premiered in the Croatian National Theatre Zagreb in 1935, from its scenic beginnings Ero the Joker was nicely received by the audience while isolated sceptical critics very soon proved to be totally failed judgements. Ero is the most staged and internationally most recognized Croatian opera. Some of its music motives, especially its final Kolo dance “Što na nebu sja visoko – What’s that shining high on heaven”, have often been used and quoted.

Before  performance Theresa said: Our “Ero” is not only the best national opera in Croatia, but is also among the world’s top national operas. Therefore, it is a national treasure that needs to be displayed internationally. It is no coincidenced that this year our young conductor Ivo Repušić performed “Ero” in Munich, together with the Munich choir and our solists, where they received uniformly amazed reactions.
